Wheaton B. (Tony) Byers led business and technical management of science and engineering teams in research and development for well over 15 years.

Tony is an original founding member and the founding CEO of Verus Research (formerly XL Scientific, LLC). He led both the startup tactical business development, initial key talent recruitment, and early technical execution required to stabilize the enterprise. Today, he leads and guides long-term strategic growth and development of the enterprise through key capability recruitment and opportunity creation.

From 2010 to 2014, Tony led the expansion of San Diego-based TechFlow, Inc., into the research and development market by establishing TechFlow Scientific as a startup independent operating division in Albuquerque, NM. In this role, Tony led initial business development and recruitment, as well as strategic development to ensure the necessary initial growth could be achieved to financially stabilize this independent entity.

From 1985 to 2010, Tony enjoyed a rewarding technical and management career at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Hired initially in Washington DC, Tony moved to Albuquerque, NM, in 1990. From 2000 to 2010, he managed a group of divisions performing basic and applied research in directed energy, wave optics, and systems survivability.

Tony received his bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Rochester. In addition to studies in physics and electrical engineering, Tony was a staff member of the university’s Physics Department creating hardware and software solutions supporting the development of detectors for use at the Fermilab Tevatron accelerator facility.
